In agricultural sciences, the research leads to contributions in form of new theories, refinement/improvement in present knowledge, processes, tools, machinery, programmes, practices etc. useful for development of new processes, products and technologies. The scientific research and innovations have contributed significantly in ushering an era of Green Revolution (followed by white, blue, yellow and orange revolutions) in India. The Rashtriya Krishi Vigyan Puraskar (RKVP) has, therefore been instituted to be conferred on scientists and other technical personnel in the field of agriculture, agricultural education, Extension and allied sciences.
Eligibility
General Eligibility Conditions
i. All Indian scientists, technologists, innovators and extension scientists (hereinafter referred as "Agricultural Scientist") working in any field of agriculture, agricultural education, extension & allied sciences (hereinafter referred as "agriculture") working in lCAR Research Institutes and in the Public Agricultural Institutions and Krishi Vigyan Kendras in lndia, who have done outstanding work in lndia shall be eligible for the award.
ii. The research findings, technology or innovation or extension activity must be properly defined, with proven socio-economic and/or environmental impact. Evidence of impact needs to be duly forwarded by the concerned Head of the Institutions.
iii. There is no limit on duration of the activity and could be throughout one's career. No minimum period of service has been prescribed.
iv. An applicant can make only one application for a given finding/contribution during a given year.
v. No judicial proceedings/departmental enquiry should be pending against the nominee at the time of considering his/her name for the award. Moreover, nominee should not have been given any major penalty or punishment in the last five years.
vi. Official/Officer who is nominated for one category may not be nominated for any other category.
vii. ACR/APAR grading should not be a factor/criterion for selection of the nominee for award.
viii. An application will be valid for one year and there will be no carry-over of applications.
ix. For the category of ‘Outstanding Inter-Disciplinary Team Research in Agriculture, Agricultural Education, Extension & Allied Sciences’ the following conditions shall be met by the team:
(a) The team must have scientist-level representation from a minimum of three well-recognized or subject areas of disciplines and may also have technical officers (T6 and above).
(b) They must have been working on an integrated research project dealing with an inherently interdisciplinary problem in a system-based, problem-solving mode covering more than three disciplines. There is no upper limit for the number of disciplines covered.
(c) Agricultural Scientists outside NARS are also eligible if they meet the eligibility criteria as mentioned above.
Category-wise Eligibility Conditions
1. Innovation & Technology in the field of agriculture & Allied Sciences; and
2. Research in the field of Agriculture & Allied Sciences
i) Individual or Team of not more than five Members (including the Team Leader).
ii) Below 60 years of age as on the closing date of the application. In the case of a Team, the Team Leader needs to be below 60 years of age as on the closing date of the application.
3. Outstanding Inter Disciplinary Team Research in Agriculture, Agricultural Education, Extension & Allied Sciences
i) Team of three or more Members (including the Team Leader).
ii) Below 60 years of age as on the closing date of the application. In the case of a Team, the Team Leader needs to be below 60 years of age as on the closing date of the application.
4. Outstanding Woman Scientist in Agriculture, Agricultural Education, Extension & Allied Sciences
i) Individual i.e. all women scientists engaged in research in agriculture and allied subjects/extension /innovations in a recognized institution.
ii) Below 60 years of age as on the closing date of the application.
5. Outstanding Young Scientist in the field of Agriculture & Allied Sciences
i) Individual scientists all young i.e. who possess a doctoral degree, and hold a regular teaching, research, or extension education job in the ICAR-SAU system institutions.
ii) Below 45 years of age as on the closing date of the application.
Fields for Rashtriya Krishi Vigyan Puraskar
The categories (1) ‘Innovation & Technology in the field of agriculture & Allied sciences’, (2) ‘Research in the field of Agriculture & Allied sciences’, and (3) ‘Outstanding Young Scientist in the field of Agriculture & Allied Sciences’ have following four fields:
i. Crops & Horticultural Sciences
ii. Natural Resources Management & Agricultural Engineering
iii. Animal & Fisheries Sciences
iv. Social Sciences
Decoration
i. In the Award Ceremony, the Awardees shall be presented a Sanad (certificate) signed by the Hon'ble Union Minister (Agriculture & Farmers Welfare) & President, ICAR. A commemorative brochure, containing the citation and photograph of the awardees shall also be released on the day of the ceremony.
ii. The decoration to such persons who are not able to attend the award ceremony due to personal reasons (including indisposition, preoccupation, etc.) shall be deemed to have been conferred. No other person (including the spouse/next of kin) should be allowed to receive the award on behalf of the absentee awardee except in posthumous cases.

Who can nominate ?
i. Any individual/institution may nominate/recommend scientists/Team of scientists from the lCAR Research Institutes, Public Agricultural Institutions and Krishi Vigyan Kendras in India.
ii. Recommendations/Nominations may also be made by State Government/UT/Administration; Ministries/Departments of the Central Government; Heads of Academies/Laboratories/Institutions/Professional Science and Engineering Societies; Vice Chancellors/Registrars of the Academic Institutions; Head of Scientific Organizations/S & T based Voluntary Organizations, etc.
iii. Agriculture Scientists/Researchers can also nominate themselves (Self-Nomination)
iv. All applications/recommendations/Nominations for the award should be as per the prescribed proforma attached as "Annexure".
Selection Process
i. There shall be a judging Committee with the Chairman and five Members, representing different domains, with one Member from outside of NAREES, to evaluate the applications and make recommendations to the ICAR. The judging Committee will be appointed by the Secretary, DARE & DG, ICAR every year, comprising retired or in-service personnel of eminence.
ii.The Chairman shall be an Agricultural Academician/Technologist of the level of the Secretary, GoI or equivalent; and Members, Agricultural Academicians/Technologists of the level of Additional Secretary, Gol; Deputy Director GeneraI, ICAR; Vice-Chancellors of Agricultural Universities or equivalent. Wherever necessary, the judging Committee may invite non-members experts for advice and evaluation.
iii. There will be separate judging committee for each category of the award.
iv. No award shall be conferred except on the recommendation of the RKVP Committee. As these awards are very prestigious, the RKVP Committee is expected to apply the highest standards while recommending a person for the award. Credibility of the awards depend on careful selection of deserving scientists, technologists or innovators etc. The RKVP Committee must look into the exceptional and distinguished achievements of an individual or team along with their benefits, as applicable to the society. The Rashtriya Krishi Vigyan Puraskar should be given for excellence and exceptional contributions and not merely routine lifetime contributions.
v. The names of the persons recommended by the RKVP Committee shall be submitted to Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare for approval.
Ceremony Details
Announcement: The announcement of the Award will be made by the Secretary DARE & Director General, ICAR, at a Press Meet in New Delhi, during the last week of June of the year.
Presentation: The presentation of the Award will be made on a suitable occasion, preferably the Foundation Day of the ICAR, 16th July of the year.
