Police Service Medal(Discontinued)

This Medal is given to recognize valuable services characterized by resource and devotion to duty including prolonged service or ability and merit in Police Service or in the Central Police/ Security. It comes at SI. No. 47 and 53 on order of Precedence as per President's Secretariat Notification No. 106-Pres/2004 dated 19/7/2004.

 

Eligibility

President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service

 

1.A minimum service of 25 years is required for all police officers irrespective of rank and service.

2. The crucial date from the date of joining of service for counting of number of years wll be 26th January and 15th August of the year for Republic Day and Independence Day respectively

3. Police personnel should be physically fit and must be in Shape I category. Relaxation for Shape 2 category may be given in exceptional cases.

4 The APARs grading should not be less than 5/10 Outstanding and 5/10 VG and the officer should not have earned any below VG APAR during the period under review.

5. There should be minimum six years gap from the date of award of police medal for Meritorious Service.

6. More than 1 missing APAR will lead to disqualification & last year APAR should not be missing.

7. Police Medal should not be awarded to more than 50% of total strength of Group 'A' service in each batch of cadre including IPS. For counting 50% of the batch in each cadre, a block of five batches (starting from 1st and 6th year of every decade) be taken together.

8. Minor penalty/censure should be counted only for review period.

9. In case of Non Initiation Certificate (NIC), backward review upto 3 years may be done subject to the condition that minimum 1 APAR must be earned after NIC period.

Selection Process

President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service

1. Central Police Awards Committee (CPAC) comprises Union Home Secretary as Chairman and Director (IB), Director (CBI), Secretary (R) Cabinet Secretariat, DsG of 2 CAPFs (by rotation), DsGP of 2 States (by rotation) and Additional Secretary (Police) MHA as Members

2. The names of the persons recommended by CPAC are submitted to the Home Minister, Prime Minister and the President for approval.
