Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards 2025
As the name of the award suggests, the award is given to a person for saving someone’s life. The award is given for meritorious act of humane nature in saving the life of a person in cases like drowning in water, accidents, fire incidents, electrocution, natural calamities, rescue operation in mines etc
Eligibility
i) Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak is awarded for conspicuous courage in saving life under circumstances of very great danger to the life of the rescuer.
ii) Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak is awarded for courage and promptitude in saving life under circumstances of great danger to the life of the rescuer.
iii) Jeevan Raksha Padak is awarded for courage and promptitude in saving life under circumstances of grave bodily injury to the rescuer.
iv) Person of either sex in all walks of life are eligible for these awards. As the 'Prime Minister's police for Life Saving' instituted by Ministry of Home Affairs has been subsumed in the "Jeevan Raksha Padak" the members of CAOFs/CPOs and Police Force, who have shown exemplary devotion to duty in saving human life, may also be apply for jeevan Raksha Padak. The award can also be conferred posthumously. The recommendations of the award are considered by the Awards Committee within a period of two calendar years from the date of performance of the act. Therefore, for the year 2025, any recommendation in respect of which the date of performance of the act falls prior to 1st October 2023 should not be forwarded to this Ministry for consideration.
Decoration
The award is presented in the form of a medallion and a certificate signed by the Union Home Minister. The decoration is presented by the State/UT Government or the concerned Ministry/Deptt, to which the award winner belongs. A small-size replica of the main medal is also given to the awardees. No miniature medal is given if the award is given posthumously.
The recipients are given a lump-sum monetary allowance at the following rates:-
a) Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak ₹ 2,00,000/-
b) Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak ₹ 1,50,000/-
c) Jeevan Raksha Padak ₹ 1,00,000/-
Other than the one-time monetary allowance, no other facility/benefit in terms of any concession in Railways, Airfare etc. is provided by the Government.

Who can nominate ?
Nominations for these awards are invited every year from all State/UT Governments, Ministry/Departments, Central Armed Police Forces, Railway Protection Force, National Disaster Response Force, Civil defence & Home Guards, State/UT Police Forces, National Disaster Management Authority, Fire Service.
Selection Process
The recommendations are placed before the JRP Awards Committee for its consideration. The Awards Committee makes its recommendations to the Prime Minister and the President. As per practice, cases once considered by the Awards Committee and not found suitable for an award are not placed before it for reconsideration.
